Torque sensor is used on rotary table/kelly or on Top Drive system (TDS) powered by electrical motors.
Unlike previous versions it can be installed in both DC and AC motors. It is clamped around the electric power supply cable, detecting the increase of current flow to the motor due to the increased load required by the rotary table or TDS to turn the drill string (Torque).
The motor current consumption has a linear relationship between the current supplied and the produced torque.
