A differential pressure transmitter is used to measure the density of the drilling fluid.
By placing two pressure transducers vertically separated (250 mm), the transmitter measures the density based on the principle that the delta pressure between the two pressure transducers (ΔP) is proportional to the distance (L) that separate them multiplied by the fluid specific gravity
Since specific gravity is the ratio of a fluid’s density to the density of water, any change in density will result in a change in pressure.
